چکیده

The term “integration” can be defined as the fusion of two separate entities, resulting in a new entity. Integrating laser scanning with photogrammetry allows us to compensate for the individual weaknesses of each method alone, thus providing more accurate modelling, interpretation and classification of the surroundings. Laser scanners produce data that can vary in terms of point density, field of view, amount of noise, incident angle, and distribution method. Similarly, the accuracy requirements or level of automation may also vary. Therefore, no single registration method overcomes others. The most suitable method is usually case-specific. This paper presents a short overview of current registration approaches and proposes four levels of integration: object-level integration, photogrammetry aided by laser scanning, laser scanning aided by photogrammetry, and tightly integrated laser scanning and optical images. In addition, some examples are presented of integrated laser scanning and photogrammetric data. * Corresponding author.

Digital Photogrammetry and Tls Data Fusion Applied to Cultural Heritage 3d Modeling

A great number of papers have been so far published about the comparison and the integration between terrestrial laser scanning and digital photogrammetry, as surveying and 3D modeling techniques. Though most of the works report about their application to Cultural Heritage, achieved results have shown that these two technologies can supplement each other in creating high-quality 3D recordings a...

Integration of Digital Photogrammetry and Laser Scanning for Heritage Documentation

Within the paper the potential of combining terrestrial laser scanning and close range photogrammetry for the documentation of heritage sites is discussed. Besides improving the geometry of the model, the integration aims on supporting the visual quality of the linear features like edges and cracks in the historical scenes. Although the laser scanner gives very rich surface details, it does not...

Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry: 21 Century Metrology

New technologies often turn heads the first time they appear. Laser scanning is one such new technique, which has impressed many users by the ability of point clouds to provide an understanding of complex subjects. Laser scanning holds obvious benefits to architectural recording, however such technology should not be used with blind faith as a solution to all problems. As with all new technolog...
